Contact Kathy Smith.

CHILDREN’S CHAPEL, Room 211, 10:30 a.m.

Can’t quite make it through church services yet? Why not let your kids have a church experience more geared to them? Children 4-8 years old are welcome and encouraged to attend Children’s Chapel each week. Lessons, songs and activities (inside and outside) are age appropriate and they’ll join you in church for communion.

MIDDLE SCHOOL, Room 210, 9:30-10 a.m.

Big changes take place in the lives of youths as they journey together on the road to adulthood. “Rock the House” is a program for students in grades 6-8 that combines discussion with games and media in learning how to get along with those annoying people who love them the most – (like parents!) Join Millie and Kathy in the Sloan Middle School Room (210) each week for a lively class!

SENIOR HIGH, Room 212, 9:30-10 a.m.

ADULTS, Great Hall, 9:30-10:15 a.m.

September 9 – November 21 - The Revelation to John
Start off the Sunday school year with the END. Pastor George will lead a study of the Book of the Revelation to John. This will be a line-by-line historical, critical and literary analysis of the most confusing book of the Bible. Bring your Bible; you will need it to keep up with this exciting, fast-paced study. Fear not! It all comes out okay in the end.

November 28 - Making Advent Wreaths
Participants will make their own Advent wreaths for use in the home. Instructor / helpers will provide guidance and assistance. Materials will be provided for a nominal charge.

December 5 - Other Symbols and Traditions of Advent / Christmas
The Advent wreath, Yule Log and other symbols and traditions of the season will be discussed. The historical transition of these from pagan to Christian and Jewish to Christian cultures will be included.

December 12 – 19 - Life after Life
A two-week series that will educate you on all you need to do now in preparation for later: making a will, naming a durable power of attorney, making a Living Will, planning your own funeral and making burial arrangements, and setting plans to ensure you and your estate pays fewer taxes (now and after you die) and provide more for you and the people and institutions you love.

December 26 – January 2 - Christmas Break

January 9 – March 6 - Faith Lessons
A short video followed by discussion on the life and teachings of Jesus, and how we might more closely follow and trust in God’s ways.

March 13 – April 10 - Forgiveness
It is the most important gift God bestows upon us, yet we often have a difficult time extending that same gift to others. How can we learn to be more forgiving? Are there some people we simply cannot or should not forgive? What constitutes unforgiveable behavior for us? For God? Join us for this important and appropriate Lenten study.

April 12 -24 - Easter break

May 1 – May 29 - Great Women of the Bible (for women only)
Great Men of the Bible (for men only, Room 205)
These gender exclusive classes wrap up our 2010-11 Sunday School year. Both classes survey the backgrounds, stories and meanings behind some of the greatest heroes / heroines (and a few not so well known characters) of the Bible.

Additional Adult Education opportunities:

  • Lecture Study: Sundays, 9:30-10:15 a.m.: Study and discussion of Scripture Lessons for the day in the Bubb Room.
  • Men’s Breakfast & Bible (or book) Study: Thursdays at 7 a.m.
  • Women’s Bible Study Class: Fridays at 9:30 a.m.

EDUCATION FOR MINISTRY (EfM)

EfM is a four-year course of study designed for laity seeking theological education. EfM is a distance learning program of the School of Theology of the University of the South.

The texts cover the Bible and the history of the church from earliest times to the present. In addition, students examine the relationship between their own life experiences and the material studied. The class meets at the Cathedral weekly from September to May at 6 p.m.  You do not have to be a member of the Cathedral to participate.  Tuition is required.  Email questions to: bgibson10@cox.net
